Send these messages to Governor Cuomo and the PSC!
Keep Ratepayer costs low: the cost to convert the Cayuga Operating Plant from coal to gas is 5 to 10 times as expensive as fixing the transmission lines. These costs will be passed on to NYSEG and National Grid customers. CLICK HERE to tell the PSC and Governor Cuomo to keep your costs low.
No Corporate Welfare: The Cayuga Operating Plant produces less than 1% of the energy in this State, and is needed for peak operation only- about 500 hours per year. CLICK HERE to tell the PSC and Governor Cuomo that you're outraged to learn they want consumers to spend half a billion dollars to upgrade a power plant that will operate only 21 days per year.
Upgrade transmission lines: The NYSEG plan is cheaper, better for the environment, and it builds infrastructure for a renwable energy future, not a fossil fuel past. CLICK HERE to tell the PSC and Governor Cuomo that you want them to fix the grid and invest in a clean energy future.
No Fossil Fuels: We must start taking climate change seriously and do everything we can to stop using fossil fuels. When the full fuel lifecycle is taken into account, methane is 100 times worse for global warming over the next 20 critical years. CLICK HERE to tell the PSC and Governor Cuomo No gas burning power plant. No fracking. No kidding.
No Redactions: The PSC has allowed NYSEG and Cayuga Operating Company to publish public documents with the essential environmental and financial information redacted. Tell the PSC the public deserves full disclosure of all the facts before deciding on a plan.
Follow the Law: As indicated in Energy Hwy blueprint, energy planning should not be determined by the local impact from plant closing. Instead, PSC law requires that this decision should be based on the most just and reasonable impact on the ratepayer. CLICK HERE to tell the PSC and Governor Cuomo to follow the State's energy policy.
